We are beyond excited to welcome Katy Britton to our rails!
Katy Britton began her career in the Bridal design industry over 20 years ago as assistant to a much loved bridal wear designer. She trained in the art of corsetry, hand embellishment, construction, draping and all the skills needed for bridal couture.
She went on to gain a BA Honors in Fashion Design in Manchester, then in 2006, her first bridal label - Mariée, was born. Having decided to change the course of the business in 2021, Mariée became Katy Britton Bride.
The Katy Britton bride doesn’t fit into any one category, but she does appreciate the unrivalled beauty of a gown that is unique to her.
Honestly, when you thought our rails could not get any prettier! We find another incredibly talented lady designing and making her own gowns for you! All of which are interchangeable and customisable.
Sustainable & ethical practices are a priority. All of their gowns are designed and constructed in the UK, silks are GOTS certified and they make everything to order.
Coming to our rails permanently in JULY - Luna, Lucia, Dulcie, Ruby Top, Ruby Skirt and Isabelle Blouse.
We will be having 10% off all 'Katy Britton' at the Trunk Show - 16th July - 31st July 2022.

Story of My Dress has grown from myself & Gill who I met 18 years ago, to bringing in more talented, strong women. Including my sister and my best friend of 25 years, both who have helped grow this business & support me the whole way.
We now have our completed team with our crazy clever graduates who are now making our dresses alongside Gill! Literally the dream team of inspiring ladies.
We asked some of our team and designers a couple of q's on their own inspirations, here is what they had to say-
What inspires you?
Cara (Founder) - "I am inspired by all the amazing women around me & the new women I meet! I absolutely love hearing their stories & I do everything to make their journey the best with us!"
Sammy (Stylist / Stock Manager) - "To be the best person I can be, to always give my everything into whatever I do. To always be kind and to also give the best version of myself to everyone around me."
Ashleigh (Studio Assistant / Stylist) - "The quote to “dream big” and to be the best version of me."
Emily (Marketing & PR) - "Wow, now that is a big question! So much inspires me including my beautiful friends & family who keep me grounded, nature, happiness and love. My grandparents always said 'love is all you need' so I have surrounded myself with people who love me for who I am and I feel incredibly grateful for that."
Angel (& For Love) - "Honestly- just about anything can inspire me! A painting or a piece of music, a beautiful sculpture or a walk on the beach… I’m not limited from where I can find inspiration- it’s all around."
Who inspires you?
Cara - "The special ladies closest to me, they drive me forward and fill me with confidence & love including the ladies I work with. My little girls especially who are fierce, sassy & so kind without a care in the world. I want to be like them!!!"
Sammy - "I am lucky enough to be surrounded by some awesome and amazingly strong women. Whether that’s my family, friends or the ladies I work with. They inspire me."
Ashleigh - "I always aim to make my grandparents proud, my Nanny loved sewing and my Grandad is an artist!"
Emily - "All of my creativeness comes from days spent at my Grandparents with a paintbrush or modelling clay in my hand. They instilled in me that the world truly was my oyster and never to be shy of hard work to get me to where I want to be!"
Angel - "Women. We’re so strong, we can birth children and run a company and a household all simultaneously"
Tell us something about you!
Cara - "I love to travel, long lunches in the sun, somewhere new with wine & my family is my absolute favourite thing to do when I’m not here designing dresses & meeting new brides!"
Sammy -"One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor 🤣! Also, I can sing karaoke better than my sister 😜"
Ashleigh - "I have worked in bridal for over 5 years and my final collection at university was inspired by my Grandparents Wedding"
Emily - "I met Cara when we were just 11 years old, she came to sit next to me on our first day at Secondary School. I was a very shy girl and Cara took me under her wing, grew my confidence and we have been besties ever since! We have been through some of the worst and best times. Cara has the kindest soul and continues to stand by my side"
Angel - "I am currently learning how to snowboard! It’s hard but I’m loving a new physical challenge"
To all the amazing women who support SOMD and come on this crazy journey with us, we can't thank you enough. You are simply awesome!

Their dreamy gowns are lightweight and luminous, with Silk being the standout star of the show, as is Linen and Crepe. The most beautiful feminine details, with swoon-worthy balloon sleeves, and statement bows.

Story of My Dress designs and our designer lines are all made to order, slow fashion and not mass-produced, therefore you can not be too organised when ordering your dress! We also have brides buying their dresses / separates over a year before their wedding which we love. The dresses on our rail will not be the ones that you purchase, it will be a dress customised and made for you. Our production time is already filling up fast for next year as we had movement from Covid to 2022, so please book in sooner rather than later. It will soon get to a point where we can't accept any orders less than 6 months away, it's all gone a bit crazy!! Which we're so grateful for!
We do have some dresses available for rush brides in our sample sale or our Love in the City Collection, which can all be found on our online shop.

Molly made an incredible 7 hour round trip to come and see us at SOMD! Molly choose a Rolling in Roses called 'Hydra', the dress of dreams. It’s not hard to see why, with its delicate, web-like star lace across a deep v-neck and keyhole back bodice, falling to a lovely train.
Molly commented on her experience -“The team at Story of My Dress were so lovely. Rolling in Roses design and create ethical and eco-friendly wedding dresses, and make them by hand in Yorkshire. So, that was that! I think it was truly meant to be, and I walked out with that dress, and carried it on the train home with me that day. It was such a relief!”.

Our bride Lauren found us at the A Most Curious Wedding Fair in London and we are so glad she did! Here is what Lauren had to say - “Having tried loads of dresses, I was starting to doubt what I wanted but then came across Cara’s stall at A Most Curious wedding Fair and was immediately drawn to the rails. When I found out she had a little boutique down in Kent and could do bespoke dresses too, I managed to convince my mum to drive me down one Saturday and never looked back. Best decision ever.”
Lauren had a bespoke dress made, and the end result was so beautiful – backless with a guipure lace bodice and long sleeves and a simple and stylish skirt, complete with embroidery on the back, too.

Victoria's dress was an original vintage Jacques gown named after the Parisian designer ‘Jacques Heim’. The dress dates back to the 1950’s with its exquisite French lace, sweetheart neckline and button up back. A few alterations were made to personalise the dress to Victoria's style, including removing a couple of layers to make it straight and lower the back to a deep V. One of Heim’s wedding dresses can be found in storage with the V&A museum!
