OUR LOCKDOWN BABES
It is such an uncertain time for us all at the moment though here at SOMD we know one thing for sure...LOVE WINS!
So many weddings have had to be postponed or changed to a more intimate affair.
We want to send all our love and thoughts to every bride-to-be out there and to say 'you've got this'!
We were lucky enough to say farewell & good luck to a couple of our brides during this time and
we have their stories below to reassure and encourage you all that the 'new normal' can also be fabulous!!

"I found Story of My Dress on Instagram and instantly knew I had to go there first when looking for my wedding dress. Back in January, myself and my bride squad turned up and after 2 hrs of fun, i had found the perfect combination for my bespoke wedding dress. Cara was brilliant throughout, listened to what I wanted and help put different combinations together. After that appointment I knew I didn’t want to go anywhere else and Story Of My Dress was the only dress shop I went to!
Little did I know in the January, that a global pandemic was just around the corner.
When I went for my first fitting in March I still did not believe my wedding day in late September would be impacted. However when the country went into lock down, the closer September got, we began to realise the wedding we had originally planned was not going to be possible; we’d always wanted a small wedding anyway in my parent’s garden, however the guest list was suddenly cut from 85 down to 30 - a lot more intimate and personal than originally planned.
Cara, Sammy and Gill were fantastic and so supportive during the next couple of fittings I had and I knew I was doing the right thing by going ahead with the day and not postponing.
The day was so special and intimate and I think, if I had the option to do it again with no pandemic, I wouldn’t change a thing. The most important people were there and it was such a beautiful day.
Saying our vows to each other, made all the tears and heartache before seem so pointless and silly. Ultimately the day is about you two and declaring your love for one another; doesn’t matter if two or two hundred people are there, as long and you and your partner are happy that’s all that counts.
It’s so hard for brides having to make a decision to stick with their date or postpone, however given the current circumstances, we still don’t know if postponing will mean the wedding of your choice. I’m so pleased we decided to stick with it and go ahead with the wedding; it was just so personal, intimate and beautiful, although I have to admit was rather strange walking down the aisle to people wearing face masks!
We plan to have a huge celebration (if COVID allows) on the year anniversary with all the others who could not make it, so how lucky are we; to celebrate our love for each other with two parties and not just the one!
If COVID has taught us anything it’s to appreciate the time we do have, to seize every opportunity and to do the things we love with the people we love the most!"

"When I came to realise that our wedding, planned for May 2020 had to be cancelled, I was distraught. The disappointment was unreal. And all because of a microscopic virus that had taken over the planet. We had planned a big, country style, DIY wedding for 150 guests and had been looking forward to our day for well over a year. My beautiful, comfy two piece dress had been picked out from Cara's stunning collection, and I could not wait to wear it. Throughout the summer, we continued to wait on tenterhooks for any government announcement that meant we could marry. So when it became legal to have 30 people to our ceremony, we jumped at the chance. I can honestly say that I am converted to intimate weddings. Everyone jumped into action; trees were decorated with fairy lights and pom poms, a live stream was set up for those who wished to watch and cakes were baked. Why had we not planned a wedding like this from the beginning? Our little but ever so special day exceeded all expectations and was more fun than we could have ever imagined. My dress was totally perfect for the intimate, outdoor celebration. We relaxed and soaked up every moment of this special occasion. Corona can't beat love and determination! Thank you so much to the story of my dress for creating my perfect two piece, and to Ashwhite Dove photography for capturing our special day."

"At the start of 2020 we had planned our big wedding at The Larmer Tree Gardens with over 100 guests coming from the UK, Ireland, USA and even Australia. No one knew that in just a few short months all that would change.
We had no choice but to postpone our big summer wedding but decided to go ahead with a legal ceremony in whatever format that would be allowed. With the world changed, what our wedding meant to us had also changed and we just wanted to be married to each other. So, on 8th August we had a very small outdoor ceremony at the Larmer Tree Gardens with our immediate family, bridesmaids and groomsmen. We had the most magical ceremony where we walked each other down the aisle and chatted to our guests and registrars during the ceremony. It was exactly what we needed, even though we hadn’t known it. We will still have the big wedding at the Larmer Tree Gardens in two years time, and see it as an excuse to draw out the celebrations as long as possible!
Cara and Gill at Story of my dress helped me to create the wedding dress of my dreams with personalised coloured wildflower embroidery along with hidden images with special meanings amongst the flowers. The whole process was so relaxed, and they were such a great support during all the uncertainty. I can’t wait to wear my SOMD dress again in two years time!"
